Hungary is a nation constantly in flux, so she's had many permutations.

As a people, Hungarians originally came from Central East Asia and Siberia.
Eventually, the Magyar people were in Europe, taking on Bavarian influence.
In the Middle Ages, Hungary was ruled by the Ottoman Empire, and so took on a Turkish influence.

But for me, the most powerful and enduring image of Hungary is that of the Soviet satellite state.
